Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center seeks volunteers, ages 15 and older, to help us achieve our vision of providing a world-class patient experience to every person, every time.
You Can Make a Difference
From 2019-2021, 2,098 volunteers worked a collective 109,295 hours in 58 departments across Shady Grove Medical Center, Shady Grove Adventist Aquilino Cancer Center, Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation and the Adventist HealthCare corporate office in Gaithersburg. At Shady Grove, our volunteers work as ambassadors in the gift shop, staff the information desks, visit patients, assist on the nursing units and contribute to the clerical duties in various offices. Our volunteers enhance the hospital’s ability to effectively meet the growing needs of our community.

Stepping Stones Program
Our Stepping Stones program offers pre-med and medical students the opportunity to shadow, interact with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals within Adventist HealthCare hospitals. For six to eight weeks from June through July, students observe and learn about the day-to-day activities in various units throughout the hospitals. Each student serves two four-hour shifts a week.
