Do I Need Surgery?
Count on our team to find out if surgery is the best option for you and explain your choices. Whether or not your surgery is planned, we’ll provide support and guide you through each step of the process.
Your primary care provider or a specialist may refer you to an Adventist HealthCare surgeon for treatment. If you’re getting care at the hospital or emergency department, your care team may recommend surgery.
Your Presurgery Appointment
If you’re referred to a surgeon, bring the following to your appointment:
- ID and health insurance card
- List of medications you take
- Loved one for support
During your visit, your care team will:
- Review your health history
- Talk about your symptoms and condition
- Do tests, such as X-rays or blood tests
- Listen and answer your questions
- Create a care plan
Alternatives to Surgery
You and your surgeon will discuss your treatment options. Learn about alternatives to surgery, such as medications. If you and your doctor decide surgery is right for you, you'll schedule the procedure together and go over how to prepare and what to expect.
Your Surgical Care Team
Expect coordinated care from all of your providers, including your primary care doctor. Feel confident you’re getting the best care possible from specialists who hold years of experience. You’ll be the focus of a team that may include:
- Anesthesiologists, doctors with specialized training in anesthesia (pain prevention)
- Surgeons
- Surgical nurses
- Surgical technicians, health care professionals who provide care in the operating room (OR)
What Will Surgery Cost?
The cost of your surgery depends on the procedure. Check with your insurance provider to see if it covers your procedure and if you have a deductible or a copay. Contact Adventist HealthCare’s Financial Services department for help and guidance.
