What’s the Difference Between Inpatient & Outpatient?

Inpatient means you stay overnight at a healthcare facility for continued care. Outpatient means you visit the facility for treatment but go home afterwards.

Mental Health Programs

Depending on your condition and other factors, you may benefit from:

• Inpatient psychiatric care – Short-term, round-the-clock care for children, teens, adults and seniors with severe symptoms at a hospital
• Partial hospitalization program – Daily intensive structured outpatient treatment for symptoms that don’t require 24-hour care
• Outpatient care – Counseling and therapy services on a schedule that works for you, as well as medication management and education to take care of your mental health

If you need substance abuse treatment, you may get care on an inpatient or intensive outpatient basis.

Programs for Children

Turn to our experienced staff for specialized mental health care for children, including counseling, play therapy and other services. Your child’s provider may recommend outpatient counseling, inpatient care or partial hospitalization services.
