Understanding Your Bill
Below you will find information to help you better understand your bill, the billing process and patient accounts.
What Your Bill Includes
Your hospital bill may include items like:
- Daily Charges for Your Room (Including: General Nursing Care, Meals, Linens, Housekeeping and Maintenance)
- Laboratory Tests
- X-rays
- Medication
- Therapy
- Special Procedures
The Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC), an agency appointed to help control health care costs in this state, regulates the rates and charges established by the hospital. We cooperate fully with the HSCRC in our attempt to provide the highest quality of service to our patients at the lowest cost.
Private Physician Billing
Your private physician and any consulting physicians involved in your care will bill you separately for their professional services. These separate bills may include hospital-affiliated physicians in:
- Radiology
- Anesthesiology
- Pathology
- Emergency Department
Patient Accounts
As a courtesy to our patients, the Patient Financial Services department will process a claim to your insurance company. We cannot guarantee that your carrier will pay the claim and accept no responsibility should the claim not be paid.
Your claim is prepared and mailed to your insurance carrier after you leave the hospital. We also send a copy to you for your records. Should there be a delay in payment, please follow up with your insurance company. (Their phone number is usually provided either on your insurance card or through your employer.)
