National & State Recognitions

Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center

Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center is the first hospital in Maryland to earn the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification at the Bronze Level, recognizing our commitment to reducing preventable infant deaths through education about infant safe sleep habits.

White Oak Medical Center is also ranked in the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for coronary bypass graft surgery (CABG).

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center

The Maryland Performance Excellence Awards (MPEA) program has awarded Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center the Silver award. The MPEA program identifies, recognizes and highlights organizations with role model performance.

The American College of Cardiology has recognized SGMC for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients at their cardiac catheterization lab. SGMC is the second in the nation to earn cardiac cath lab accreditation with PCI.

Cancer Care

ACR AccreditedThe Adventist HealthCare Aquilino Cancer Center is an Accredited Radiation Oncology Center by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the American Society for Radiation Oncology and Committee on Radiation Oncology Accreditation. The Center is among only 15 percent of radiation oncology centers to hold this accreditation.

Shady Grove Medical Center’s Nuclear Medicine Services received the Gold Seal of Accreditation in computed tomography (CT), or CAT scanning, by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The accreditation is given to facilities that provide the highest level of image quality and patient safety.

Cardiac Care

Accredited Chest Pain Centers with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)

Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center, a Version V Chest Pain Center with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) and Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center, a Cycle III Chest Pain Center with PCI, have been recognized by the national Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, an Institute of the American College of Cardiology, as exceeding rigid standards for care procedures in the treatment of patients with chest pain and other heart attack symptoms.

American College of Cardiology

Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center is among a select few hospitals in the country to be recognized with the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry's 2018 Platinum Performance Achievement Award for providing the highest quality care to heart attack patients.

American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation Center at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center and the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center are certified by the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services and Systems (MIEMSS)

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove and White Oak Medical Centers are designated cardiac interventional centers by the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services and Systems (MIEMSS). The designation is awarded to hospitals that demonstrate the delivery of quality care in their interventional heart programs.

Baby-Friendly Designation

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center was the first Baby-Friendly facility in Maryland. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), through the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is a global program that encourages and recognizes hospitals that offer an optimal level of care for infant feeding.

Maryland Patient Safety Center (MPSC) Neonatal Collaborative

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s NICU and Labor & Delivery units earned the Gold Medal award from the Maryland Patient Safety Center (MPSC) Neonatal Collaborative, for the quality care the hospital provides to critically ill newborns.

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) Care Award

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center is the first hospital in Maryland to receive the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) Care Award. The international award recognizes the exceptional education and support the hospital’s clinical team provides to breastfeeding families.

Safe Sleep Hospital

White Oak Medical Center is the first state in Maryland to earn the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification, recognizing our commitment to reducing preventable infant deaths through education about infant safe sleep habits. The hospital was recognized at the Bronze level.”

Rehabilitation

Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation is the first and only hospital in a five-state area to obtain accreditations from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International for care of hospitalized patients in four specialty areas - brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke and amputation.

Stroke Care

Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services and Systems (MIEMSS)

Both Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center and Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center have achieved designation as Primary Stroke Center by the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services and Systems (MIEMSS). The designation is awarded to hospitals that demonstrate the delivery of quality care in their stroke programs.

Additionally, Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center is the only hospital in the D.C. suburbs of Maryland to hold MIEMSS designation as a Thrombectomy-Capable Primary Stroke Center. The state awards this designation to hospitals with proven capabilities and quality in mechanical thrombectomy, which is a minimally invasive stroke treatment that removes clots to restore blood flow to the brain.

Certified in Stroke by The Joint Commission

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center has earned Primary Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission, indicating exceptional efforts to provide better stroke patient outcomes. The certification indicates that the quality of stroke care at Shady Grove meets the unique needs of stroke patients.

American Heart Association (AHA) Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target Stroke: Honor Roll Elite Plus

AHA Stroke Gold Plus Award 2021Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center and Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center have received the Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target Stroke: Honor Roll Elite Plus from the American Heart Association (AHA) for their expert, high quality stroke care.

The Gold Plus Quality Achievement recognizes each hospital for reaching an aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with 85 percent or higher compliance to core standard levels of care outlined by the AHA/American Stroke Association for 12 consecutive months.

AHA’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus honors both hospitals for having door-to-needle times of 45 minutes or less in at least 75 percent of stroke patients and 30 minutes or less in at least 50 percent of stroke patients. This is the time between when a patient arrives at the hospital and when they receive anti-clotting medication. Providing this medication quickly can reduce long-term damage and increase the chances of a full recovery.

American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center is nationally accredited by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program Accredited Center.

Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for joint replacement of hips and knees, recognizing the hospital’s dedication to exceeding the highest quality and patient care standards.

Center of Excellence

The Wound Care Centers at Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center and Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center are recognized as a Center of Excellence by Healogics, Inc., the world’s leading wound care management company, making it the only wound care center in the D.C. metropolitan region within the Healogics network to be recognized with this national award.

Vascular Care

Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL)

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s Vascular Laboratory has achieved accreditations by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) for its noninvasive vascular testing in the areas of carotid ultrasound and venous ultrasound. These accreditations recognize Shady Grove’s delivery of quality care and testing to vascular patients.

Business Practices

Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC) and Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) Management Service Organization (MSO) State Designation

ACES (Ambulatory Care Electronic Health Records Solution) offers EHR implementation and expert guidance to affiliated physicians of Adventist HealthCare, which includes Shady Grove Adventist and Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospitals.

ACES has been awarded the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) Management Service Organization (MSO) State Designation. It has also achieved full accreditation with the Management Service Organization Accreditation Program (MSOAP) from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC).

The MHCC designation recognizes ACES’ national accreditation as an MSO. The designation also means that ACES has met a number of national and state standards intended to ensure high-quality business operations, and the existence of sound privacy and security policies.

As an EHNAC MSOAP-accredited organization, ACES was evaluated in the areas of privacy and security, technical performance, business practices and organizational resources.

Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN)

The Cardiac and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center has been awarded the silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), making it the only hospital in Montgomery County, and one of only six in Maryland, to receive this prestigious national recognition. This three-year award marks a significant achievement in providing exceptional patient care and a healthy work environment.

Alliance for Workplace Excellence (AWE)

Adventist HealthCare and its affiliate, Adventist HealthCare LifeWork Strategies, each received the 2013 Workplace Excellence Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence. The awards honor organizations across the country that display an outstanding commitment to promoting professional fulfillment and personal wellness for their employees in the workplace, at home and within the community. Adventist HealthCare LifeWork Strategies, which provides health and wellness services to the business community, was also honored with the 2013 Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award.
