White Oak Expansion

Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center Set to Increase Patient Capacity

SILVER SPRING, MD – Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center, an acute-care hospital in eastern Montgomery County, is adding patient beds to increase its ability to serve patients from across the Washington, D.C., region who seek emergency and inpatient care for medical, surgical and heart procedures.

White Oak Medical Center is adding 30 patient beds on the 8th floor of the hospital’s south tower. This floor was added to the hospital a few years ago while awaiting approval from the state of Maryland to increase capacity. Construction is now under

way on the interior space.

“The demand for services has consistently been high since White Oak Medical Center opened in August 2019,” said Anthony Stahl, president, White Oak Medical Center. “Most days, we are at or over capacity. Our focus is on helping patients by providing world-class care that reflects our mission to extend God’s care though the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. We need more beds to meet the sheer need in our community, especially as the population continues to grow.”

The new unit is expected to open in late 2024 and will include thirty beds for patients who require acute care after coming through the emergency department or from a surgical procedure.

“Adventist HealthCare is committed to meeting the needs of th

e communities we serve in Maryland and Washington, DC,” said Terry Forde, president, Adventist HealthCare. “Adding capacity and implementing plans for future growth at White Oak Medical Center is one example of Adventist HealthCare’s intentional approach to meeting the needs of all patients who seek continuing care at our world-class non-acute and hospital-based facilities.”

The addition of the new floor is an important step in White Oak Medical Center’s longer-term plans to increase capacity to accommodate the growing need for services. Plans are also under development to add a second medical office building and ambulatory surgical center to White Oak Medical Center’s campus, which is expected to break ground in late 2024.
