Shady Grove Medical Center NICU Nurse Spotlighted During U.S. Postal Service's Healthcare Stamp Release
Rockville, Maryland – This month, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) unveiled its "Thank You Healthcare Community" Forever Stamp, recognizing the dedication of healthcare workers across the country – including a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center who played a special role in the stamp’s launch.
Michele Brasher, RN, was featured in a USPS video that celebrated the stamp’s release. Michele has spent 27 years caring for Shady Grove Medical Center’s tiniest patients. Her work includes helping families navigate the emotional challenges of having a newborn in intensive care. Michelle was the only Maryland hospital employee represented in the video, which offered a glimpse of her caring for babies in Shady Grove’s NICU and spotlighted the commitment and compassion of U.S. healthcare workers.
The video premiered during the stamp’s unveiling ceremony, which featured remarks by Louis DeJoy, Postmaster General and CEO of the U.S. Postal Service, and Xavier Becerra, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. During the event in Washington, D.C., the leaders celebrated healthcare workers across the nation for their courage, resilience and sacrifice.
Nursing is a family affair for Michele. Her daughter, Morgan, also serves families in The Birth Center at Shady Grove Medical Center, which helps families welcome 4,500 babies each year. Through her appearance in the USPS video, Michele represented 2,531 team members at Shady Grove Medical Center who are dedicated to serving the diverse healthcare need of their neighbors.
