Joan Vincent
Vice President, Patient Care Services & CNO
Joan became part of the Executive Leadership Team at Shady Grove Medical Center as the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer in December 2014. She is a member of the AHC Senior Executive Forum where she represents the AHC CNOs as the lead of the AHC CNO Council. Her experience and expertise have been instrumental in the continued advancement and growth of nursing practice, as well as in elevating the quality of care provided to achieve a “world-class” patient experience. Her compassion for nursing and strong leadership skills have resulted in a strong, focused nursing leadership team. Joan, along with her team, provides support and continuing education to staff not only to achieve the best outcomes for their patients but also to be the “best place to work”.
Joan’s nursing experience has been obtained through a wide variety of roles including clinical bedside nursing in Med/Surg, Critical Care and Professional Education as well as teaching at the Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing. Her career took her to Sibley Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 30 years in various leadership roles such as the Critical Care Educator, Director of Education and Training, Clinical Coordinator and for thirteen of those years as the Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer. During that time, she also earned a second Master’s Degree in Leadership from Marymount University, achieved Advanced Certification as a Nurse Executive and graduated from the Johns Hopkins Inaugural class: “Transforming Health Systems for Accountable Care”. At Sibley, with funds she raised from non-profit organizations, Joan developed and managed a variety of in-house training programs for the hospital’s front-line nurses.
Joan earned her B.S. in Nursing from West Virginia University School of Nursing, a Master’s Degree in Cardiovascular Nursing from Catholic University, and a Master’s Degree in Leadership from Marymount University.
Joan is most proud of her accomplishments in advancing nursing practice in the community hospital setting and of developing frontline leadership across hospital departments.
