Bariatric Exercise Program

Exercise is an important component in your weight loss journey. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital’s Bariatric Exercise Program is designed to help you. Our experienced staff will assist you in setting realistic goals and will work to encourage you every step of the way. Our exercise physiologist will work with you one-on-one to establish a balanced routine of exercise, diet and stress management.

We will design your exercise program based on the information provided by you and your physician. We look forward to assisting you in establishing a healthy and active lifestyle!

Regular exercise at your prescribed intensity and heart rate may:

  • Improve your lipid profile (decrease your total cholesterol and LDL, and increase your HDL levels)
  • Help control high blood pressure
  • Help control blood sugar levels for diabetics
  • Decrease excess body weight
  • Help in the management of stress
  • Strengthen your heart muscle and lower your resting heart rate
  • Improve the ability to do leisure and work activities with less effort
  • Increase muscle strength
  • Increase stamina
  • Increase your metabolic rate, thus allowing you to burn more calories throughout the day.
  • Allow you to decrease or come off some of medications
  • Improve sex drive
  • Decrease the risk for re-hospitalization or re-occurrence of your heart event. Studies report that there is a 20-25% reduction in mortality for patients that take place in supervised cardiac rehabilitation program.
