Hospital Leadership

 

Dennis Hansen, President, joined Shady Grove in May, 2006.  Prior to joining Shady Grove, Dennis worked for the Centura Health System in Denver, Colorado, where he had been the Vice President, Chief Operating Officer at Littleton Adventist Hospital.  Prior to that, he worked as the Administrative Director of Business Support, Outpatient Rehabilitation, Occupational Health Service and Rehabilitation Services at Porter and Littleton Adventist Hospitals.  Dennis brings a number of outstanding skills to our President position, including experience in the management of multi-facility operations, process improvement, project management and construction management.   Dennis holds an MBA from the University of California, Irvine and a BS in Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University.
   
Thewodros “Ted” Asfaw, Director of Mission Integration and Pastoral Care Services, joined Shady Grove in 2006 as a member of Shady Grove’s Executive team, coming to us from Health Midwest and Midwest Division of Hospital Corporation of America.  Ted has over 15 years of experience in pastoral care and education.  He possesses a Doctor of Ministry, a Master of Divinity, and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. Ted is a certified ACPE Supervisor and is a Board Certified Chaplain. Ted also serves at the Regional Director of the Adventist Healthcare Clinical pastoral Education Program (AHC-CPE) located at Shady Grove.
   
Ron Benfield, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, joined the Shady Grove team in January, 2007.  He has served in healthcare leadership since 1979, with responsibilities that have included information technology, managed care, human resources, various clinical areas, and financial management.  Previously, Ron was Chief Financial Officer for Florida Hospital Waterman near Orlando.  He received his undergraduate degree in business administration from Pacific Union College and holds an M.B.A. from California State University San Bernardino.  Ron is a Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and a Diplomat in the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Ron has a passion for stewardship, with a goal of helping make decisions today that ensure that Shady Grove will be financially secure and still carrying out its mission for at least the next 100 years.
   
  Gaurov Dayal, MD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, has experience in clinical medicine as well as strategy and business development.  He hasserved on the medical staff at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital since 2003, prior to which he was a management consultant with McKinsey and Company. Prior to his role as CMO, Dr Dayal served as Vice-President of Clinical Porgram Development and also led the Pediatric Hospitalist group at Shady Grove. A graduate of Johns Hopkins, he received his M.D. at Northwestern University and completed his postgraduate training at Washington University, Saint Louis.
   
  Debbie Foshee, Vice President of Quality and Medical Staff Services,  joined Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in April, 2000. Debbie brings more than 25 years of experience in nursing, performance improvement, risk management, and regulatory compliance.  She was named as “Healthcare Quality Manager of the Year” in 2001, and completed a fellowship program in Patient Safety Leadership in 2006. She works actively with hospital and medical staff to promote the safe delivery of patient care.
   
Jeff Jones, Associate Vice President of Human Resources, joined the Shady Grove team in October, 2007.  He has served in healthcare leadership since 1983, with responsibilities in Human Resources, Employee Health, Environmental Services, and Child Care Services.  Most recently, Jeff was Director of Human Resources for Florida Hospital Memorial System composed of three hospitals located in Ormond Beach, FL.  He received his undergraduate degree in Sociology from Pacific Union College and holds an M.B.A. from University of Phoenix.  Jeff is passionate of not accepting things as they are but continually looks at doing things differently to help take Shady Grove to become the best it possibly can be by hiring and retaining the best employees.
   
Shelly Leyba, Vice President of Operations, joined Shady Grove in September, 2007.  Prior to Joining Shady Grove, she worked for Centura Health in Denver, Colorado, where she had been the Director of Strategic Planning and Project Management at Littleton Adventist Hospital.  Shelly brings 20 years of healthcare experience and has served in healthcare leadership since 1997.  She brings a number of outstanding skills to our AVP, Operations position, including expertise in hospital operations, strategic planning, process improvement and project management.  Shelly holds an MBA in Health Care Management from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado.
   
Skip Margot, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive, joined Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in March, 2008. Skip brings more than 28 years of nursing experience covering a broad range of both clinical and leadership areas. Prior to joining the team at SGAH Skip served as CNE at Bon Secours, Baltimore, and other nurse leadership positions at Holy Cross Hospital and Georgetown University Hospital. He holds a Masters in Science, Healthcare Management from Georgetown University and a BSN from Regents College, New York. He is Board Certified in Nursing Administration, Advanced. He is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
   
  Josie Ogaitis, Special Assistant to the President, has been with Shady Grove Adventist Hospital as part of the Executive Team since June of 2005.  Josie formerly worked at the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in various capacities including the Director of Governmental Affairs.  Josie Ogaitis has a B.S.N. and M.S. in Health Policy.  She has over ten years of experience in health care policy development and management.
   
William H. Smith, Chief Development Officer, joined Shady Grove in January, 2002. A former Baptist minister, with two Masters and a Ph.D. in Theology, he has been in fund-raising since 1989.  Under his leadership, the Foundation has increased its philanthropic support from an average of $800,000 to $3.0 million annually.  The Hospital is completing a $12.0 million expansion campaign, with over $14 million committed to date.  At the same time, the Foundation has provided another $3 million in support of other Hospital priorities.
   
Kathryn Zimmerman, Associate Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, is responsible for developing and deploying Shady Grove’s strategic plan and growing and existing new businesses at Shady Grove.  Before joining Adventist HealthCare, Kathryn was a health care consultant with Ernst & Young in the Strategy & Marketing Department.  Kathryn joined Adventist HealthCare in 1997 and has worked in a variety of roles since that time.  A graduate of Cornell University; Kathryn has an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
